5th Masonic District Convention

Hosted by Freedom Lodge No. 10 the Annual Masonic District No.1 Convention was held last May 21,2011 in Xevera Mabalacat in Pampanga.

Several proposals to amend the Uniform Code of by-laws were submitted to the Legislative and Executive council for further study.

Congratulations to VW Camilo Tabulinar , DGS and to the Officers of Masonic District No. 1 for a very fruitful and succesful convention.

April 9 to 10,2011 - Two (2) days summer outing at the Hardin ng Postema at Tanza,Cavite

The event was highlighted by different parlor games and friendly competition games of chess, tug of war and darts.

Celebrated also during the outing was VW Evaristo and Sister Nene del Mundo's 60th wedding anniversary.

Also celebrated was MWB Nicolas and Sister Cecile Ricafrente's 38th wedding anniversary.

112th Republic Day

On January 23,2011 Republic Day was celebrated in Malolos City, Bulacan. A parade participated by Government officials, civic-military group, local government units by Bulacan, a program followed at the patio of the Barasoain Church.The celebration marked the anniversary of the official inaguration of the Philippine Republic after the promulgation of the Constitution by the Malolos Congress 112 years ago.

Led by our Worshipful Master, VW Bernard Marges, PGIG ;members of MNL#8 joined the parade carrying posters showing events in our history that transpired in the birth of our republic.

MWB Nicolas Ricafrente shared a very informative facts on our history that influenced the birth of the 1st Republic in Asia.

Another IGLPI Lodge in Northern Luzon

Brethren in Northern Luzon in the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of Free And Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands is now undertaking the initial steps in the formation of a new masonic lodge in this region, specifically in Bulacan.

This will be the second lodge to be established in this part of the country and the first IGLPI lodge in the province of Bulacan , following the successful institution and constitution of Freedom Lodge # 10 in Pampanga.

The new lodge that will be under dispensation shall be named Barasoain.

Last April 24 and 25, 2010 the members and family of subordinate lodges in the jurisdiction of the MWIGLPI held the 2010 IGLPI family day in Nature Discovery Camp in Tagaytay City.It started with the unveiling of the ceremonial arch of Ilog Siloy,followed by lunch ala picnic in the camp,a mini sports fest followed, filipino traditional games were also played, dinner with live band ensued in the evening.Those who stayed for the night enjoyed the camping.

FREEDOM LODGE NO. 10, IGLPI

Last February 27,2010, at one o'clock in the afternoon, at the PAF Officers Club,600th ABW,Air Force City,Clark Airbase,Angeles City, Pampanga, FREEDOM LODGE NO. 10, was Constituted, a clear reflection of IGLPI's presence beyond the province of Cavite.

This was the result of the hard work , patience and faith of the charter members of Freedom Lodge U.D.lead by VW Domingo R. De Leon,PGLI as the Charter Master to comply with the IGLPI's requirement in forming a lodge.
After the Constitution , an election was conducted and the first set of Elected and Appointed officers for this new lodge were ready to be installed .

MW JOSEPH A. CAPUYAN , GRAND MASTER was the Installing Officer, Master of Ceremonies was VW Albert C. Poblete,PJGL, Asst. Master of Ceremonies was VW Venancio I. Cuvin,PGL.

VW Zafiro V. Benedicto was elected Worshipful Master, Bro. Doelethone Gatdula the Senior Warden and Bro. Atty. Francis Dimaliwat the Junior Warden.
Hon. Francis L. Nepomuceno , Mayor, Angeles City was the guest speaker.
Brethren from other jurisdictions were present to witness this historic event, an inspiration for the IGLPI brethren who dreamed to form other lodges outside Cavite.

Nine(9) Brethren from Mendez Nunez Lodge # 8 were also present and actively participated in this occasion, they were VWs Bombet Vidallon, Pol Toledo, Rey Fabros,Ernie Madrazo,Boy Ramos, Ver Maranan, Bro. SW Gary Quinones, Bros. Rodel and Ramil Mabaquiao.

VW Dominador P. Ramos, Grand Organist, composed the Freedom Lodge Hymn,he also provided the musical background during the constitution and installation.

GENERAL MARCELINO AURE, Philippine Revolution Hero, a General, a Freemason from Mendez,Cavite

GENERAL MARCELINO AURE Y FENOL (1863-1930)
“ALAPAAP”

The eldest of the children of Kapitang Pedro Aure and Ursula Fenol , Marcelino was born in Indang,Cavite on February 12,1863.The young Marcelino showed an inborn talent while studying in the private school of Maestro Basa of Indang. Learning the alphabet, arithmetic, and Tagalog poetry in a remarkable short period of time. When Mendez was converted into a municipality, the elder Aure made his son the chief clerk although he was only sixteen (16) years old.

Aure experienced great hardships under Spanish officials. He therefore signed up the Katipunan secret society. Because of his exceptional bravery Marcelino was given the rank of captain.
Kawit Revolt
August 31, 1896
Liberation of Noveleta in Cavite, the uprisings were more successful, because they had able military commanders like Emilio Aguinaldo who led the revolt in Kawit on August 31, and Mariano Alvarez who liberated Noveleta on the same day. Other military leaders rose to prominence, notably Artemio Ricarte, Tomas Mascardo, Juan Cailles, Vito Belarmino, Mariano Trias and Marcelino Aure.

It was General Emilio Aguinaldo who was inducted into the Katipunan such great revolutionary figures as the three Riego de Dios brothers (Emiliano, Mariano, and Vicente) of Maragondon; Marcelino Aure of Mendez, Ambrocio Mojica of Indang, Vito Belarmino of Silang, Gregorio Jocson of Naik, and many others.

Battle of Talisay
It was in the battle of Talisay, Batangas, about the end of September 1896 that Marcelino F. Aure, whose symbolic Katipunan name was Alapaap (Cloud) –( His nom de guerre )and commander of some 30 bolomen from Mendez, Cavite, that he gained distinction for bravery and amazing magical power to ward off bullets. Standing in the middle of the road leading to the Talisay convent, Aure caused the Spaniards to concentrate their attacks on him, thus enabling his soldiers to break through enemy defense and capture their target.

Defense of Silang

On February 19,1897, the People’s troop who defended Silang were under the command of General Vito Belarmino of the Magdalo army; aiding him were Colonels Ambrosio Mojica , Marcelino Aure and Captain Hipolito Sakilayan, all of the Magdiwang . They put up a determined and pitched defense against the Spanish forces headed by General Jose de Lacambre.

Municipal President

Marcelino’s father; Pedro Aure, founder of the town of Mendez, was the gobernadorcillo of Mendez during its first year as a municipality in 1876. Cayetano Aure, perhaps a relative of Pedro, was the first and only capitan municipal of Mendez during the First Philippine Republic, 1899-1901.
When the Americans established a civil government in the Philippines, General Aure became a notary public and was appointed municipal president of Mendez (1901-1903).All municipal president appointed served without compensation. It was at the end of his term that Mendez was merged with Bailen and Alfonso under the name of the latter. The three were merged into one municipality under Public Act 747 passed by the Philippine Commission.

General Aure was also a member of the Provincial Board of Cavite.

Freemasonry
General Aure was active in Freemasonry, he first joined a Spanish Lodge and when Masonic forces in the Philippines were unified he transferred allegiance to the Grand Lodge of the Philippines. In February 1917 he received the fourteenth degree (14˚) in the Philippine bodies.

Personal Life
In the early period of American occupation, so he married for the third time to a young girl named Margarita Vidamo, a native of Mendez. The couple was blessed with fourteen (14) children, but only seven (7) of them grew up to adulthood. They were Pacita,Ignacio,Aurea,Antonio,Marcelino Jr.,Miguel and Ursula.

General Aure died on February 4, 1930, at the age 67.

He was the first known Mason and Philippine Revolution General from Mendez Nunez , Cavite.

Cavite Masons help to save the environment

This is an on-going project of this Lodge spearheaded by VW Apolonio S. Toledo , Past District Supervisor with the support of the MW Independent Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands in coordination and cooperation with the Local Government specifically Bgy. Carasuchi,Indang Cavite headed by Chairman Bro. Alfonso P. Marges of Mendez Nunez Lodge # 8 in the effort to save the environment thru our continuing effort and support for water shed conservation and development of Ilog Siloy into an agro economic and resort complex .

Initial clean-up drive was conducted ,garbage were removed and the waterways were cleared of obstruction, several tree planting activities were conducted . Residents were oriented in the proper way of disposing the garbage and encouraged not use the river as a dumping site of their household waste.

Proposed picnic sites will be set-up and a swimming area will be provided in the near future. A hiking and mountain bike trail is being considered.

2010 MASONIC YEAR THEME & the Annual Grand Assembly

REAFFIRMING THE HONOR AND NOBILITY OF TRUE FILIPINO MASONRY

This is the theme for year 2010 which was reflected by MW Joseph A.Capuyan , Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of Free And Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands during the 4th Grand Annual Assembly held last November 26-28,2009 at the Philippine Oasis Hotel and Resorts in Silang,Cavite.

Mendez Nunez No. 8 , hosted the District Convention last May 16,2009, the Lodge of Remembrance last October 25,2009 and the 3rd Founding Anniversary and the Annual Grand Assembly with the leadership of VW Apolonio " Pol" S. Toledo and WM Fernando Aure , all of the masonic event mentioned was successful because of the support of the 2009 Grand Lodge Officers with MW Manuel L. Carranza Jr. in the Grand Oriental seat and the District Officers, brethren and of course the Ladies of IGLPI.

Wreath Laying ceremony to the monument of Bro.Dr. Jose P. Rizal was done after the Flag Ceremony and courtesy call to the Office of Mayor Clarito Poblete.

The Brethren then marched from the Silang town plaza to the venue, Banda El Governador played the Grand Lodge March with the Grand Lodge Officers leading the parade followed by the Lodges in this jurisdiction.

The Grand Lodge was opened to transact business , the 3rd Annual Grand assembly reports were read and approved. Reports of the various committees and councils were presented. Resolutions were also presented and approved.

After the fraternal lunch , labor resumed with a masonic eduction , the topic was about the history of Philippine Masonry and IGLPI, the issue of multi jurisdiction, an open forum followed and issues were clarified and discussed.

Day 3. Labor resumed and the IGLPI Inc. Annual Grand Assembly Membership meeting was held. The Election of Grand Line Officers was conducted and the Installation ceremonies followed. MW Manuel L. Carranza gave his valedictory address and presented the awards . Installation ceremonies of elected and appointed Grand Line officers , with MW Nonoy as the installing officer.

Incoming Grand Master Joseph A. Capuyan gave his inaugural address, with emphasis on the above theme, he thanked all the brethren , especially the Grand Line Officers from Grand Logia Nacional Filipinas who attended the Installation ceremonies, also brethren from the Grand Lodge of the Philippines and brother Masons from abroad who supported IGLPI in this event.

Guest Speaker was Cavite Governor Ayong Maliksi who reported the current state of the province, its new heroes and the ongoing Cavite Revolution.

The Grand Lodge was closed and right after fraternal Dinner and fellowship with a live band, member lodge presentation , a short video presentation of IGLPI was shown, and the raffle draw by the Ladies of IGLPI followed.

The Ladies of IGLPI "Operation Medya Noche"

Our Lodge was blessed enough last December 29, 2008 wherein the Ladies of IGLPI chosen to held their "Operation Noche Buena" which benefited the less fortunate of our town.

On that day the weather was very cold but the ladies were warm in preparing the bags of goodies for the distribution. Observing them the smile and joy in their hearts as they know that this will be a great help to our kababayan in Mendez.

Our Worshipful Master Ferdie Aure gave a Certificate of Appreciation to the Ladies of IGLPI and encouraged them to continue this charitable work.

The activity was a success and as always there's the reason for a celebration by having a superb lunch prepared by our wives...

In behalf of the brethren of Mendez-Nunez Lodge # 8 (IGLPI), we would like to say "Many Thanks" to our dear Worshipful Master Manuel A. Madrazo in governing our Lodge in Masonic Year 2008 as he ended his term and passed The Gavel to WB Fernando R. Aure.

Let me share how VW Manuel Madrazo or Nonong lead and guided us as we travelled the 2008 Masonic Year .........

First, by adopting the theme "Remember Kuya Rolly", as he preserved Kuya Rolly's legacy of Harmony among Mendez Nunez Brothers by being True Masons of Upland Cavite...

Second, as he strengthened our organization by supporting the growth of our GRAND LODGE - IGLPI - as we attended the institutions of our 2 newly member lodges namely, Freedom Lodge U.D. in Clark Field, Pampanga and Amity Lodge U.D. in Taguig...

Improving our Masonic Leadership by attending seminars/workshops in Lodge Management and Leadership as well as the rituals and floor works...

Raising of Two Quality Members - Bro Ramil Mabaquaio (yours truly) & Bro Waldy Carbonell, as the brethren observed strictly the standard for admission...

THE MAN AND BROTHER served as an inspiration and a model to the brethrens of Cavite of what is a TRUE MASON….

His Masonic Career…..

VW Rolly H. Sarmiento has lived a very dynamic Masonic life, as may be gleaned from the subsequent narration…..

1982, He knocks at the door of ARAW LODGE # 18 and the door of Masonry open to him as he was initiated (February 06, 1982), passed (March 06, 1982) and was raised in the sublime degree of Masonry on April 03, 1982.

On the same year, he was conferred the 32nd degree of the Luzon Bodies Scottish Rite.

In 1989, he was elected as Worshipful Master of Jose Rizal Lodge # 1172 under the Grand Lodge of the State of New York. This lodge is composed of natural-born Filipinos in a foreign Masonic grand jurisdiction.

1997 & 1998, He was the Worshipful Master of Mendez Nunez # 316 under the jurisdiction of Grand Lodge of the Philippines.

His other Masonic position in District # 2:

DGL 2001 - 2002
DDGM 2003 - 2004

His Masonic Dream……

It’s been his dream of forming a Masonic lodge in his hometown of Mendez, Cavite. After his long sojourn abroad he finally decided to take an early retirement in 1995 and settled back home permanently. He then started to work on the realization of his dream……forming a Masonic lodge in Mendez.

In 1996 his dream was realized with the help of some brothers and their first installation was held in Tagaytay Lodge. Their monthly meeting was later on moved to Indang Lodge. He also spearheaded the founding of Mendez-Nunez Masonic Temple in the year 2000. The land was donated by their mother Trinidad H. Sarmiento.

His Masonic Support…..

In 2006 when Mendez Nunez Lodge decided to join the Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippine Island (IGLPI) with new charter number as Mendez Nunez Lodge # 8, he served as a guide and counselor to the brethren of Mendez Nunez during the first year of our masonic journey to the rough and rugged road of True Masonry.

HARMONY was his last wish to the brethren of MNL and as of to date we embrace this as this prevail in our masonic temple to show how we love and respect Kuya Rolly.

Lastly sharing to you the excerpt from his speech as DDGM in 2003 District Convention held in Mendez Nunez Masonic Temple.

IGLPI - Celebrating the 139th Birthday of Bro. Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit

In observance of the 139th birthday of Brother Emilio Aguinaldo (March 22), "Father of Philippine Republic", the Grand Officers and Members of MW IGLPI participated the ceremony in Kawit Shrine.

We thank the warm reception extended by the Aguinaldo's family to the IGLPI.

After the ceremony, we proceeded to E.A. Memorial Lodge No. 5 to continue the celebration by part taking the Filipino breakfast prepared by the brethrens.

Venerable Maestros, Officers and members of the Loja Templarios do Apocalipse no. 2973, especially to Bro: Sergio Araujo Castiglioni a 1º Freemason of this lodge, whom I met and introduced me to the brethren. Good Evening.

It is my great honor to be here with you tonight and gave a chance to speak in the presence of your District Officers and newly Entered Apprentice Masons. Though my travel in the West is quite roughed and rugged, in search of the Master’s Lost Word, finally landed to this far side of the globe. I’m really impressed upon entering into your lodge, the hospitality, fraternidad, warm welcome and good sense of humor given to me was very meaningful and much appreciated. Freemasonry is like a thunder that strikes and penetrates deep into every Mason’s heart or any person been initiated, passed and raised to our ancient fraternity. Our generations of this time, still carries the ancient charges which I carries wherever I go. And with an aid of Masonic “cabletow “that binds every brethren wither-so-ever dispersed, I’m here with you tonight to spread the NEWS of PHILIPPINE MASONRY.

The new born Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands under the helm of MWB: Jaime V. Bantolo, as our first Grand Master. Eighteen months of challenges to various aspects of Masonic endeavor for the bright, carry and spread the true meaning of brotherhood. Eight ( 8 ) lodges around the district of Cavite province, voluntarily declared independence from the Grand Lodge of the Philippines ( GLP ) in many reasons which later you’ll understand the roots of it by sending your correspondence to RWB:. (Sunday), a famous site in the province of Cavite, where the Philippine Flag was first raised and proclaimed Philippine Independence against Spain. Harmony prevail to those so called “ Clandestine Masons “ or suspended brethren from the eight ( 8 ) lodges around the province. They proved the strength of their dedication to the craft by strictly adhere the writings of the Volume of the Sacred Law, “the BIBLE “. Grand Lodge of the Philippines suspended these Freemasons who joined to the newly formed Independent Grand Lodge of Philippine Islands without due process of Masonic law. Whereby, we’ve been known each others for so many decades, seeing each others not only in Masonic functions but also from other social or political activities around the province. As far as I’ve understand in Masonry, hypocrisy and deceit are unknown among us, sincerity and plain dealing distinguished us and with heart and tongue, we join in promoting each others welfare and rejoicing in each other’s prosperity.

Brethren, Humble to say that tonight please allow myself to introduce as a bridge of Masonry between the Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands and Grand Oriente do Brasil thru Loja Templarios do Apocalipse no. 2973. Let’s unites and strengthen our relationship. Long live Masonry under the Fatherhood of GOD and the Brotherhood of Men.

Brethren of MNL# 8 supported the "NO HOST - FELLOWSHIP"

Last March 13, 2008 - Thursday, a new journey in the history of Philippine Masonry as the brethren from Mendez Nunez Lodge # 8 graced the "NO HOST - FELLOWSHIP" which was initiated by Kuya Ben Apacible.

It was a long trip from Mendez, Cavite to Intramuros, Manila but the kuyangs were very excited to be part of this event as we believe that this will be the start of HARMONY in Philippine Masonry.

That night we witnessed the sharing of brothers from different Grand Lodges as they speak about what is a Mason....how we were made a Mason......

Next Steps.....The FreeMasons......looking forward this coming May 2008......

Newly Raised Master Masons

Two outstanding Fellow Craft Masons who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their respective fields had been raised to the sublime degree of Master Masons last November 24, 2007 by the Mendez-Nunez Lodge # 8 of Free and Accepted Masons , a just and legally constituted lodge under the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippines Islands.

Raised to the third degree of Masonic craft after passing the masonic proficiency tests during the recently concluded stated meeting of the decade old Mendez-Nunez Lodge # 8 are Prof. Waldy Carbonell, Al Haj, a veteran media practitioner and communications Faculty member of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Bro. Ramil Peji Mabaquiao, a fast rising Supply Chain Executive of a large multinational company engaged in food processing and other home personal care products.

Bro. Waldy and Bro. Ramil have both previously hurdled the two degrees of Entered Apprentice Mason and Fellow Craft Mason before finally being raised to the degree of Master Masons in the tradition, practice and spirit all those who have gone through the sublime passage before them.

Again we witnessed harmony in Philippine Masonry, brethren from Araw Lodge # 18, Bro Walden Carbonell who supported this memorable event of his father Bro. Waldy.

Simple but very memorable fellowship followed after the raising.

MENDEZ- NUÑEZ LODGE # 8 (1997 to 2007)

ORIGIN

The lodge is named after the town of Mendez in Cavite. Mendez was originally known as Gahitan, one of the barrios of Indang. The name gahitan was derived from the word “gahit” meaning to cut , referring to the cutting of the tall and thick cogon grass that abounded in the area. A petition was sent to Governor Jose Malcampo y Monje to separate Gahitan from its mother town Indang. On May 16, 1874 , two years after the Cavite Revolt in 1872, Gov. Gen. Malcampo granted the request and ordered that the three barrios of Gahitan,Palocpoc and Anuling be assimilated to form one independent municipality named MENDEZ-NUÑEZ. The official proclamation of three barrios as an independent municipality took place on September 6, 1875 as sanctioned by the King of Spain in his Royal Order dated December 12,1878. Gov. Gen. Malcampo named the new town in memory of his good friend Spanish Gen. Castro MENDEZ-NUÑEZ with whom he established a Masonic Lodge in Kawit under a charter from the Grand Lodge of Portugal in 1856.

Square and Compass

November 27,1994 – The Square and Compass Club of Mendez was formed , the long term goal of which was to establish a Masonic lodge in this town.

January 22, 1996 – Twenty seven Master Masons, all residing in or near Mendez sent a petition to the Grand Lodge asking permission to congregate as a lodge.

Under Dispensation (U.D.)

February 27, 1996- Grand Master Danilo D. Angeles gave them a dispensation to organize MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge .

March 30, 1996 – At 4:15 in the afternoon of this day the 1st meeting of the duly instituted MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge U.D. was held.

ANCOM 96 (April 25 to 27,1996) – The petition for a charter was disapproved. However, the lodge has been given an extension for one year under dispensation. Some requirements are still to be complied with.

September 28, 1996 - MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge U.D. raised its 1st Master mason.
Bro. Fernando Aure was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason to become its first regular member.

December 4, 1996 - MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge U.D. raised three (3) fiscals to the sublime degree of Master Masons, they are :
Ernesto B. Vida, Tomas H. Torneros Jr. and Manuel D. Noche.

April 25, 1997 - MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge was granted a charter by the Grand Lodge and assigned # 316.
CONSTITUTION

May 31, 1997- MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge constituted, to become officially Masonic Lodge # 316. MW Leon A.P. Banez Jr., GM constituted the lodge, the charter was read and the public installation of its 1st elected and appointed officials followed.

August 23, 1997- MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge started to hold their stated meetings at Indang Lodge # 115.

The Brethren of MNL desired to build their own Masonic Temple and started to get positive result , the Sarmiento Family thru Mrs. Trinidad H. Sarmiento , donated a parcel of land on which the temple will be built.

February 1, 2000- the cornerstone for the Temple was laid, Ground Breaking rites was officiated by RW Oscar V. Bunyi, Deputy Grand Master.

The fund raising for the construction of the temple started , several projects and events were held in order to raise the much needed resources, Golf tournaments in the USA and here in the country were held, special projects ,

Pledges and support from Brethren and Lodges all around the world kept pouring , with the continuing support the building construction progressed .

March 23, 2002- marked the 1st Stated meeting held in its new Masonic Temple on F. Manalo St. , Barangay Payapa, Mendez , Cavite.

The Lodge continued to labor in harmony in the following years and became active participant in Masonic activity in the district.

TRANSITION

Recent events in Philippine Masonry , particularly in the District of Cavite resulted to a growing clamor for change, the Lodge was in its crossroad of its Masonic journey.

On that historic day of August 26,2006 , MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge approved Resolution No. 6- A. Toledo Series of 2006 stating that the Lodge will join in the Formation of a new Grand Lodge .

On September 10, 2006 , MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge together with seven (7) other Lodges in Cavite joined the Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands in Aguinaldo Shrine , Kawit , Cavite.

MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Masonic Lodge is now under the jurisdiction of IGLPI and is officially MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge # 8.

The first Grand Assembly of IGLPI on November 25, 2006 witnessed the ratification of a new constitution , it is in this occasion that the Grand Lodge Hymn (the Lyrics & Music by WB Dominador P. Ramos , incumbent WM of MNL#8) was sung.

Ten years ago , MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge was established , now it is a Pillar of the Craft , where Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth continue to be its tenets .
The rough and rugged road to True Masonry will be traveled, the brethren of MENDEZ-NUÑEZ Lodge # 8 will take on that journey.

ANOTHER BROTHERLY LOVE EVENT IN PHILIPPINE MASONIC HISTORY

VWB VIRGILIO F SARMIENTO, PRDGM GLP, was the Guest Speaker in the Second Public Installation Ceremonies of the Elected and Appointed Officers of Mendez-Nunez Lodge No. 8 IGLPI last September 22, 2007 at Mendez-Nunez, Cavite.

VWB VIRGILIO F. SARMIENTO, was a Past Regional Deputy Grand Master, GLP in 1998 under the term of MW Enrique L Locsin, PGM 1998. He covered the region of Southern Tagalog. In addition, VWB Sarmiento was a Past Junior Grand Deacon, GLP, Past Master of Tagaytay Lodge No. 165 GLP, and held numerous positions in the Masonic organization of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines. A very Illustrious Brother of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry of the Philippines, he was always a distinguish member of many Conferrals in both Imus and Cavite Bodies. He was a very distinguish and brilliant Masonic Lecturer and illumined the minds of many on the better meanings and truths of Masonic principles.

We are always reminded of the humility of VWB Sarmiento, when he declined the appointment of DDGM of Cavite Masonic District Nr. 2 in 1990. His Lodge, Tagaytay Lodge No. 165, was NOT in turn for the hosting of the District Convention and which by virtue of the Cavite Covenant of 1987 should have come the DDGM. By his gracious act of fidelity to the Cavite Covenant, harmony prevailed in the District.This is always recorded in Cavite Masonic history.

The Lodge and the IGLPI are honored to have VWB Virgilio F Sarmiento , PRDGM as a lodge Guest Speaker. He spoke of Masonry as a way of life, which should always build bridges to unite all men into a Brotherhood under GOD regardless of religion, race, creed, etc. He also enlightened us once more on the true meaning and understanding of what and who is clandestine. He also mentioned that there are many Grand Lodges in the world not in fraternal relations with the GLP AND VICE VERSA.

There is a provision in the GLP Constitution for the Grand Master to create Regional Grand Lodges and to appoint Regional Grand Master. Except for the Regional Grand Lodge of Japan and the Regional Grand Lodge of Ryukyu Islands, which both no longer exist, no other Regional Grand Lodge was created. The first ever appointment of a Regional Deputy Grand Master could have been a step towards the fulfillment of the GLP Constitutional provision.

The IGLPI Constitution provides for the position of Regional Deputies covering a Region with several Districts under them. Another growth opportunitiy in the future awaits everyone..

Second Public Installation of MNL# 8 Masonic Year 2007 - 2008

Last September 22, 2007 at 9AM at Mendez Masonic Temple 21 brethrens were installed as new officers for Masonic Year 2007 - 2008.

Installing Officer was RW Joseph A. Capuyan, JGW, Master of Ceremonies - Eduardo V. Bayot, DGS and Asst. Master of Ceremonies - VW Bernard E. Marges, PDGL.

We were inspired by the masonic sharing of our guest speaker, VW Virgilio F. Sarmiento, Past Regional Deputy Grand Master, GLP / Past Junior Grand Deacon, GLP

The programme was closed by our MW Jaime V. Bantolo, GM.

This occasion were supported by the members and officers of the other IGLPI's lodges.
